ELEMENTS OF ART: FORM AND VALUE

Elements of Art: Form

Form- an element of art, means objects that have three dimensions.

The world we live in made up almost entirely of forms.

Elements of Art: Value

Value is perhaps the most important element of art when it comes to drawing. It can help create the illusion of form in a drawing or painting when used properly.

Shapes into Forms:

Learn how to draw shapes and turn them into forms in this video demonstration.

Making Things Look 3D

You can simplify pretty much any organic object into sphere, cylinders and cubes or a combination of these three forms.

Practice drawing cylinders and cubes from various angles.

ELEMENTS OF ART: SPACE

Space

Is the area between and around objects. Space can also refer to the feeling of depth. Real space is three-dimensional; in visual art, when we create the feeling or illusion of depth, we call it space.

Note: Only the first four techniques were practiced in class. Don't panic!

• Space â€¢ Illusion of form  â€¢ Overlapping

• Placement  â€¢ Detail  â€¢ Size  â€¢ Illusion of depth

ELEMENTS OF ART: TEXTURE

Texture

It refers to the way an object feels to the touch or looks as it may feel if it were touched.  Texture is one of the seven elements of art.

When drawing or painting texture, it is important to pay close attention to the values- they reveal the illusion of texture.

In fine art, the term 'landscape' - from the Dutch word 'landschap', describes any painting or drawing whose "principal subject" is the portrayal of a scenic view. Such scenery encompasses meadows, hills, mountains, valleys, trees, rivers, forests, coastal views and seascapes. The view depicted may be of a real place, or it may be an imaginary or idealized scene.

Landscape paintings are not necessarily limited to depictions of land. For example, they can also include images of seascapes, cloudscapes, skyscapes, riverscapes, or cityscapes (otherwise known as "urban landscapes"). The main unifying element of any of these -scape artworks is that they all center around some kind of scenery.

What is a Landscape?
